San Francisco (February 12) – Ultra runner and Miles 2 Give charity founder, Landon Cooper, will be greeting guests and talking about his 3,000-mile run across the United States for cancer research at the Cariloha Pier 39 San Francisco store February 12 from 1 – 2 p.m.
The event is hosted by Cariloha, international retailer known for offering an entire store experience that’s completely merchandised with products made from bamboo, and one of the most highly promoted merchants in the Caribbean cruise industry. The first 25 patrons to join Landon for this ‘meet and greet’ will receive special Cariloha bamboo merchandise free. A Cariloha bamboo lei will also be given to all attending guests during the meet and greet.
Cooper, 33, is originally from Birmingham, Alabama but has been training in Orem, Utah for the past several months. He begins his arduous run on February 14, 2013 at the Golden Gate Bridge and runs 150 days straight, averaging about 21 miles a day, to reach the White House in Washington D.C. on July 4. The total distance from Ocean Beach, San Francisco to Ocean City, Maryland is about 3,000 miles.
During the journey, Cooper will be looking to raise at least $100,000 for Miles 2 Give, which was founded in memory of his friend Ashley Davis, who died in 2011 at the age of 23 after battling Ewing’s sarcoma cancer.
“There is no clock-in and no clock-out when it comes to finding a cure for any cancer, so there should be no mentality or approach when it comes to this run,” Cooper said. “People who are going through this cancer or who have lost brothers and sisters and family members to cancer, you can’t clock-in and out from that emotion. So I wanted my tour to be slightly relative to the many dark days that many patients go through.”
With that in mind Cooper will be dedicating each day of his run to a person who has lost their life to or is battling Sarcoma Cancer. Names will be announced on the Miles 2 Give website and through different media outlets.
Each day Cooper is on the road, he will run about 11 miles in the morning before stopping to visit schools, running gear stores and other locations to promote the tour. After each visit, Cooper will run about 10 more miles before resting and resuming the trip the next morning.
