Cariloha is the only retailer in the Caribbean Islands selling exclusively clothing, bedding and bath goods made of viscose from bamboo.
Oranjestad, Aruba – With millions of hundreds of private businesses on the island of Aruba, Cariloha is the only one that offers an entire store experience that revolves completely around bamboo-based products. Cariloha’s shirts, polos, hats, dresses, shorts, skirts, socks, bed sheets, bath towels, jewelry and more are all made from unique Cariloha Bamboo blends.
The Cariloha store is owned and operated by long-time Cariloha corporate partners, Isaac and Omer Grynsztein, who also own Del Sol (Cariloha sister brand) and Cariloha stores in St. Maarten, Bonaire and Curacao.
This Cariloha store is located in the capital city, Oranjestad, at the Royal Plaza shops. The Grynszteins also own another Cariloha store on the island in the Paceo Herencia shops next to the Del Sol store. This new location is off to a promising start, already exceeding sales projections. The store will be managed and staffed by local employees and Cariloha corporate-recruited interns.
The Grynszteins, who reside in Willemstad, Curacao, came across Cariloha in 2007 and were Cariloha’s first independent owners outside of Cariloha’s corporately owned stores. They were the first owners to take capitalize on Cariloha’s scalable retail business model.
The name, Cariloha, derives from the blending of Caribbean style with Hawaiian aloha spirit. This is embodied by the store’s exclusive collection of bamboo-based products, which are geared toward visitors looking to capture their vacation memories. Cariloha staffers encourage visitors to touch and feel the softness and difference of their apparel, bedding and bath goods that are all made from bamboo.
“Opening a second Cariloha store in Aruba is an affirming moment for us,” said Scott Brady, Cariloha AVP of Communications. “Our businesses have always flourished on this ‘happy’ island for more than 10 years now, and we look forward to working with the Grynsztein family for many more years to come.”
Bamboo apparel features several qualities better than cotton. Bamboo is twice as soft to the touch as cotton; it keeps you up to three degrees cooler than cotton; bamboo is naturally antibacterial, hypoallergenic and repels odor, which comes in really handy on a hot day on the Big Island.
“When you think of bamboo, large green shoots in the jungle somewhere likely come to mind,” said Jeff Pedersen, Cariloha President and CEO. “Not many people know that bamboo can actually be husked and separated into ultra-soft fabric for making apparel and other goods at little-to-no risk on the environment. In fact, some species of bamboo can grow up to 4 feet per day. It’s one of the most renewable resources on the planet.”
Established in 2007, Cariloha is the only retailer in the world to provide an entire store experience that’s completely outfit with merchandise made of bamboo. The product line features an exclusive collection of apparel, accessories, bedding and bath goods and more all made from bamboo. Cariloha’s soft, breezy bamboo goods were first sold in three, full stores in Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Cozumel, Mexico; and St. Thomas, USVI. Since the first three stores in 2008, Cariloha has already opened stores in 12 countries and continues to grow. Cariloha has quickly become one of the fastest-growing merchants promoted on board Carnival, Celebrity, Disney, Princess, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Lines. Today, thanks to an ever-growing, rich supply of bamboo, Cariloha continues to offer an exclusive collection of products, all enjoying the strength, soft touch, and green ‘footprint’ of this renewable resource.
