Cariloha is the only retailer in the country of Honduras selling exclusively clothing, bedding and bath goods made from bamboo.
ROATAN, HONDURAS – Cariloha opened its newest store this week in the Carnival Cruise Line-owned port of Mahogany Bay in Roatan, Honduras. The new store is approximately 700 square feet and is the only retail store in Honduras that sells exclusively clothing, bedding, accessories and bath goods that are made from eco-friendly bamboo.
Store supervisor, Sheena Pinet, and General Manager, Pedro Murillo, will be overseeing both the Cariloha store and its sister brand store, Del Sol. New store owner, Panchito Morales, who lives in Cozumel, Mexico, is also the owner of Del Sol Grand Turk, Del Sol Roatan, and very shortly Del Sol and Cariloha Antigua, which open later this month.
Cariloha is located near the cruise dock ramp where all cruise guests enter and exit the shopping plaza. It’s also right next to the gate where all tour buses drop off returning cruise passengers. It is the closest retail location to the “ski lift” and pathway to the beach front area and restaurants, ensuring that nearly everyone who gets off the cruise ships will see or walk by the store. Mahogany Bay is home to Del Sol, Piraña Joe, Diamonds International, Effy Jewelers, Fat Tuesday and many other souvenir shops.
“Cariloha sets a new standard for retail in Roatan,” said Tyler Rhodes, Cariloha Regional Sales Director. “The store’s look, feel, and products are arguably the most attractive on the island. Hopefully, they will motivate other retailers to improve their image and create a better shopping experience for all visitors to this port.”
Rhodes added that the local clientele is already enjoying the store and the soft bamboo products. The Cariloha store is staffed with local employees who are excited to be involved in selling eco-friendly bamboo products and anxious to get bamboo bed sheets of their own.
All Cariloha guests receive a free bamboo lei (necklace) just for stopping by the store, which helps proliferate the bamboo, eco-friendly attitude even more. Cariloha staffers encourage visitors to touch and feel the bamboo-soft difference of their shirts, bed sheets, towels, and hand bags for themselves.
Bamboo apparel, bedding and bath goods feature several qualities that make it a superior fabric. It’s twice as soft to touch as cotton and keeps you a few degrees cooler. It’s naturally antibacterial, hypoallergenic and helps prevent skin odor and skin irritation.
“When you think of bamboo, large green shoots in the jungle somewhere likely come to mind,” said Jeff Pedersen, Cariloha President and CEO. “Not many people know that bamboo can actually be husked and separated into ultra-soft fabric for making apparel and other goods at little-to-no risk on the environment. In fact, some species of bamboo can grow up to 4 feet per day. It’s one of the most renewable resources on the planet.”
Established in 2007, Cariloha is the only retailer in the world to provide an entire store experience that’s completely outfit with merchandise made of bamboo. The product line features an exclusive collection of apparel, accessories, home décor, bedding and bath goods and more all made from bamboo. Cariloha’s soft, breezy bamboo goods were first seen out of three, full stores in Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Cozumel, Mexico; and St. Thomas, USVI. Since the first three stores in 2008, Cariloha has already opened 23 stores in 11 countries and growing. Cariloha has quickly become one of the fastest-growing merchants promoted on board Carnival, Celebrity, Disney, Princess, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Lines. Today, thanks to an ever-growing, rich supply of bamboo, Cariloha continues to offer an exclusive collection of apparel, accessories, home décor, bed and bath sets and more all enjoying the strength, soft touch, and green ‘footprint’ of this renewable resource.
