Eco‐Friendly Retailer, Cariloha, Brings Bamboo Clothing, Bedding and Bath Goods to Wailea

Cariloha opens in the Shops at Wailea selling exclusively clothing, bedding and bath goods made from bamboo.

WAILEA, HAWAII – With nearly 7 million private businesses in America, Cariloha is the only one that offers an entire store experience that revolves completely around bamboo‐based clothing, bedding, bath goods and accessories.

Cariloha’s hats, shirts, polos, dresses, shorts, skirts, socks, bed sheets, bath towels, hand bags and more are all made from unique bamboo fabric blends. To celebrate its arrival in the Wailea, Maui community, Cariloha is giving locals and tourists alike a free bamboo lei just for visiting the store now through the end of the year.

The Cariloha retail establishment doesn’t claim to be the ‘greenest’ store on the planet; but rather a step in the right direction. “We believe Cariloha’s use of eco-friendly bamboo goods illustrates our commitment to offering a sustainable, unique business that helps bolster the Hawaiian economy,” said Mike Gill store owner, who also owns the Cariloha store at the Ala Moana Shopping in Waikiki with his wife, Cynthia. “Cariloha’s comfortable, soft bamboo goods complement the lifestyle and heritage of the Hawaiian islands.”

Gill said the name, Cariloha, derives from the blending of Caribbean style with Hawaiian aloha spirit. This is embodied by the store’s exclusive collection of bamboo products and island‐inspired wares, which attract customers who are looking to capture great memories from their Hawaiian vacations. Cariloha Wailea staffers encourage visitors to touch and feel the bamboo‐soft difference of their apparel, bedding and towels for themselves.

Bamboo apparel features several qualities better than cotton. Bamboo is twice as soft to the touch as cotton; it keeps you up to three degrees cooler than cotton; bamboo is naturally antibacterial, hypoallergenic and repels odor, which comes in really handy on a hot day.

“When you think of bamboo, large green shoots in the jungle somewhere likely come to mind,” said Jeff Pedersen, Cariloha President and CEO. “Not many people know that bamboo can actually be husked and separated into ultra‐soft fabric for making apparel and other goods at little‐to‐no risk on the environment. In fact, some species of bamboo can grow up to 4 feet per day. It’s one of the most renewable resources on the planet.”
