Franklin Street Shop turns Juneau Sunshine into Colorful Creations

Del Sol, retailer of clothing and accessories that soak up the sun to change colors, is hosting an interactive grand opening of its newly relocated store, next to new sister brand store, Cariloha, which retails eco-friendly bamboo-based clothing

Salt Lake City – June 8, 2011 – Polynesian-Alaskan dancing, light refreshments and first-hand interaction with the stores’ unique color-changing and bamboo-based products will all be part of the grand-opening celebration on Wednesday, June 8 at the Del Sol and Cariloha stores on 432 Franklin Street, next to the Mount Roberts Tramway.

The entire premise behind these two stores is to encourage people to tread a little lighter on the environment with Cariloha’s soft, eco-friendly bamboo-based clothing and to have fun in the sun with Del Sol’s color-changing clothing and accessories. Store general managers, Adam and Bonnie Wood, hope to drive home these points by giving everyone who visits the new stores a free color-changing ring by Del Sol, and a free bamboo lei by Cariloha.

For the past seven years, the Del Sol store has been a prominent fixture of the local Juneau community, and the majority of both stores’ staffs are made up of local employees. For this relocation grand opening, the local Polynesian performing group, Alaskan Luau, will be dancing and entertaining guests out in front of the two stores between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

As an added benefit to the Juneau community, Del Sol’s sun-painted products and Cariloha’s bamboo products can even come in handy on a hot day outside. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, even on a cloudy day, up to 80 percent of the sun’s ultraviolet rays can pass through the clouds. “You know it’s time to apply sunscreen when you see your Del Sol shirt design change from colorless to colorful because of the UV-ray intensity from the sun,” said Jeff Pedersen, Del Sol and Cariloha president and CEO.  “And, if color change isn’t your thing, the bamboo properties found in our bamboo apparel actually keeps you 3 degrees cooler than other fabrics and helps wick away moisture from your body.”
