Bamboo Store, Cariloha, to Celebrate Grand Opening in Lahaina, Maui

Cariloha Lahaina Maui

Cariloha is the only retailer in Hawaii selling exclusively clothing, bedding and bath goods made from bamboo.

LAHAINA, MAUI – With almost 7 million private businesses in America, Cariloha is the only one that offers an entire store experience that revolves completely around bamboo-based products. Cariloha’s hats, shirts, polos, dresses, shorts, skirts, socks, bed sheets, bath towels, jewelry and more are all made from eco-friendly bamboo blends.

To celebrate its arrival to the Lahaina community, Cariloha is hosting a grand-opening ceremony on Thursday, April 4 between 12 and 2 p.m. at the Cariloha store, located on Front Street in Lahaina at 824 Front Street, across the street from Cheeseburger in Paradise. The ceremony will include hula dancing by local hula dancers, a ribbon-cutting ceremony by founder and owner, Jeff Pedersen, who is flying in from Utah for the event, and a free bamboo lei for all attendees.

The 800-square-foot Cariloha store is corporately owned and shares the same store square footage with its sister brand, Del Sol, which specializes in clothing and accessories that change colors with sunlight. Both are celebrating their grand opening in Lahaina.

The Cariloha Lahaina store will be staffed and managed by local employees and corporately hired interns, who typically work in the store for three to six months. Staffers and interns encourage store visitors to touch, feel and compare the softness of the bamboo clothing, bedding and bath goods with other similar products in today’s marketplace.

“Customers are the best judges of whether or not they think Cariloha bamboo products are softer than anything they’ve ever felt before,” said Scott Brady, Cariloha AVP of Communications. “If it’s not softer, then we guarantee the customer’s money back, no questions asked.”

Brady says the name, Cariloha, derives from blending Caribbean style with Hawaiian aloha spirit, which is then embodied by the store’s exclusive collection of bamboo products and island-inspired wares that attract Hawaiian visitors looking to capture picturesque Maui memories.

Bamboo apparel features several qualities that make it a superior fabric. It’s twice as soft to touch as cotton and keeps you a few degrees cooler. It’s naturally hypoallergenic and helps prevent skin odor and skin irritation, which comes in really handy on a hot day at the beach.

“When you think of bamboo, large green shoots in the jungle somewhere likely come to mind,” said Jeff Pedersen, Cariloha Founder and CEO. “Not many people know that bamboo can actually be husked and separated into ultra-soft fabric for making apparel and other goods at little-to-no risk on the environment. In fact, some species of bamboo can grow up to 4 feet per day. It’s one of the most renewable resources on the planet.”

In addition to this Lahaina store, Cariloha can now be found in Kauai at the Poipu Shopping Village and in Kona at the Waikoloa Kings’ Shops. Another Cariloha store is slated to open this summer in Waikiki, Oahu at the Ala Moana Shopping Center.

About Cariloha
Established in 2007, Cariloha is the only retailer in the world to provide an entire store experience that’s completely outfit with merchandise made of bamboo. The product line features an exclusive collection of apparel, accessories, home décor, bedding and bath goods and more all made from bamboo. Cariloha’s soft, breezy bamboo goods were first seen out of three, full stores in Ocho Rios, Jamaica; Cozumel, Mexico; and St. Thomas, USVI. Since the first three stores in 2008, Cariloha has already opened stores in nine countries and growing. Cariloha has quickly become one of the fastest-growing merchants promoted on board Carnival, Celebrity, Disney, Princess, Royal Caribbean and Norwegian Cruise Lines. Today, thanks to an ever-growing, rich supply of bamboo, Cariloha continues to offer an exclusive collection of apparel, accessories, home décor, bed and bath sets and more all enjoying the strength, soft touch, and green ‘footprint’ of this renewable resource.
